curuchamion: TARDIS in a sunny field (sunny TARDIS field)
Okay, so I was poking InfiniteViking's back archives (as I do - some of my longtime friends know that I tend to marathon interesting people's journal archives when I'm bored, and scatter comments along my way), and I found a "List 100 awesome female characters" meme.

This leads me to realize that I don't even know if I could come up with 25 or 50 awesome female characters, let alone 100. I pay far too little attention to the ladies - heck, the TARDIS is the only female character in my icons right now! O_O Except for her, my favorite characters from my various fandoms fit quite well under the heading of "my guys".

So. For an experiment: rockin' awesome female characters in no particular order. Good, evil, human, alien, inorganic... let's see how many I can come up with!

Hopefully this will be long )

Well! That was educational! It seems that many things I like actually have quite a high concentration of awesome ladies - I just don't primarily focus on them. Granted, most of them are in pretty minor roles. o_O

(Feel free to suggest female characters I missed in the comments! Admittedly, there are some I left out on purpose, but there are also many many many that I just haven't seen yet or plain forgot about. *g*)
Okay, it seems 600 words is a bit long for a [livejournal.com profile] dw100  post - it is "dw100", after all - so at the mod's request, I'm shifting the edited version of "Well, That's Just Ducky" over here.

Once again, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] primsong  for pointing out the plot-hole that this version fixed!

Title: Well, That's Just Ducky
Summary: Three meets Ducky in L-Space. And they save MarySue!me's life.
Notes: Gen, 600 words, fluffity pointless fluff. ;-)

In all the vast wilderness of Stargate/NCIS crossover fic, there is one very important meeting that I cannot discover has ever been written - and believe me, I've been looking!

I would so much rather somebody else, a better writer than me, had written this little piece; I simply don't think I can do justice to the amount of awesome inherent in the concept. (And I strongly suspect my characterization is off - haven't actually watched any 'Gate in way too long.) I have neither a continuation nor a prequel in mind... just an incident that wanted to be written.

Title: Medical Convergency
Summary: Ducky goes to Colorado Springs to meet an old friend.
Notes: Gen, 370-some words (word counter tools are a pain, and so is my memory).

Chevron 7 locked... )
Okay... this one is basically pointless. Challenge word #4 was "crossover"; what I actually wound up doing is more of a Doctor Who/NCIS/Mary Sue MacGuffin, frankly. (Or in English: "Ow, I can't write with this headache, I just want to be the filling in a Three-and-Ducky sandwich right now.")

Being me, it's extremely G-rated. Just a nice little piece of unabashed cuddlefluff - which is actually a first for me, I normally get quite flustered writing cuddlefluff. Maybe [livejournal.com profile] primsong 's finally rubbing off on me...

Oh, and I apologize for the title. ;-)

Title: Well, That's Just Ducky
Summary: ...Summary? Um... Three, Ducky, and MarySue!me in L-Space...
Notes: Gen, 550 words. Fluffity pointless fluff!

I actually kind of snurched (love that word, Beth) this caption from [livejournal.com profile] isiscaughey 's "Three and Sarah Jane Picspam of Awesome" (hey, I've got to hunt up that Gandalf the Pink LOL, sometime... not today though.) Go check it out, it is the awesome, and I quote it incessantly. *yells "ONOES! '80s clothing attack!" just for fun*

Oh yeah... pic from screenmusings, helpful color-tweaky advice from illyushadarling, cuteness courtesy of David McCallum and Pauley Perrette (I think I spelled that right).

Caption loosely inspired by Beth's LOLParanoia, picture from ScreenMusings.

(Got some Sapphire & Steel LOLs coming up... putting your screencap collection on slideshow as a screensaver is a wonderful way to come up with new captions!)

Thanks to ScreenMusings, I finally haz Ducky screencaps! They only have six eps of NCIS capped thus far, but that's actually a good thing... I would have been up all night looking at pretty pictures otherwise.

The awesome thing about captioning actors like David McCallum and Richard Dean Anderson is that they have such wonderfully specific expressions, and they never, ever go all "im in ur background kelnoreeming, kthxbai". (I mean no offence whatever to Christopher Judge... it's more a general observation.)

Sorry... /ramble. Y'know, I don't think David's hands have changed at all in the last forty years, do you?

ETA: Oops. Forget to credit. This caption vaguely inspired by LOLCaptionII and similar LOLMacs. (Well. LOLJacks... but yeah.)

Okay, I finally got around to watching some NCIS, first season. I'm not terribly impressed by most of the characters, or by the writing, but Ducky is awesome!

So, being the inveterate spoiler-reader I am, I've also been poking round the NCIS fic archives on FFnet. (Did you know there are 32 pages of Ducky-centric fic? That's almost four times as many as the whole MacGyver archive.) I haven't nearly got through them all yet, but I did find one I've absolutely got to rec.

Payment for Knowledge by OutCold is a poem, with rhymes and meter, and therefore comes under the heading of "fan poetry"... but it's about as much like the great majority of "fan poetry" as LOTR is like the great majority of "fantasy fiction". Seriously. It's the best fan poem I have ever read, and as soon as I have time, I'm going to memorize it.

Go, read, hug Ducky. (Not that it's particularly sad, but it is hug-inducing... and since when have we needed an excuse to hug DMc anyway?)
"Start with nothing, take it away..." Sorry, wrong ep. ;-)

Start with Lothi's "Baby Ducky" pic (in the comments here), add one "Deadly Toys Affair" screencap just begging for a really tight crop, combine in the brain of a zoned-out and slightly hyper curuchamion, and stand back. Cross-fandom LOLs are potentially explosive.

(Y'all do know you can click through for a larger image, right? Just checking. *looks innocent*)

ETA: Now you don't have to! happy grin
