So my very first published fanfic, Velocizompire Apocalypse, has apparently been nominated for the First Annual Gatefic Awards.

(No, I don't know for sure who nominated it... but I'd like to say "thank you" here, in the reasonably well-founded suspicion that the nominator will see the thanks. Would ~~you~~ anyone like to confirm or deny complicity, btw? *wink*)

Here's the point of this post: VZA is only posted on FFnet. I've recently been seeing some rumors about FFnet being even more evil than usual. Therefore I'd like to put VZA on Archive Of Our Own (that being apparently the most reliable and reputable archiving location) so I can send the awards team the new link when I confirm.

I am not on AO3. Does anyone seeing this have a spare AO3 invite code, or know of a place I could find one? I have till Sept 10 to confirm my nomination, so I'm in a tad bit of a hurry. I will send virtual cookies! ;-)

stunt_muppet wanted people to repost this meme, so I am. A little background: there is apparently an "id-fic" trend going round LJ, wherein people ask other people to tell them which bits of their subconscious tend to show up in their writing/comments/favorite stories/whatnot. Or something like that.

So here's the meme:

Look at my fandoms, my favorite characters, the pairings I like the most, my kinks, my fictional crushes, anything. Now, in a friendly and possibly teasing way, point out the obvious and not so obvious trends or fetishes you see in my tastes. Maybe I'm nuts for all vampire stories, or have a thing for men who smoke, or I'm fond for the tsundere archetype, or I'm into rival slash. Let's point out all those things you've noticed I tend to squee about during our friendship.

Being an introspective child, I can think of a few patterns right off the bat, but I'm rather interested to see what anyone else might come up with. (My master fic list is stickied on my journal, just so's you know if you want to use that for reference. But be warned, I don't fic about nearly everything I squee about. *points to username*)

Of course, I'd be more than happy to answer this meme for anyone else who wants me to! :-)

Um... on the off-chance that any of the Whovians on my flist don't follow

calufrax already, I just thought I'd mention that I'll be reccing fics there this week, which is to say starting tomorrow (Monday). This is my first time reccing anywhere officially, so I'm pretty hyper about it.

I'm also quite excited about my list of fics to recommend; five of the seven authors on it have never been recced on Calufrax before, including two I actually talked into joining Teaspoon just so I can rec them! And the other two are so good, and so popular, I had trouble finding fics of theirs that weren't recced already, but I just couldn't leave them out.

(Also, if you didn't know, Calufrax are running a bit short on reccers - people are only signed up through January 10 - so if you've been meaning to go over and sign up for another reccing week, now might be a good time.)

So... we were talking on

mfu_canteen about what toys Napoleon and Illya might have played with as kids, and in the course of the discussion, I happened to remark: "I have this mental image of a very small Illya, during the early part of the war when Germany and Russia were allies, imitating the German soldiers strutting around, and picking up their accent and language. I like to pretend he drew on those memories for his portrayal of Colonel Nexor in The Gurnius Affair - since, remember, Nexor was dead by the time Illya saw his face, yet he apparently had all the guy's mannerisms down pat."

So

spikesgirl58 took that for a plot bunny and wrote me a fic based on it!!!! SQUEEEEEE!!! I've never inspired a fic before! (Well, a crack!drabble or two on Doctor Who knitting chatter threads - you should have heard the one about Four's longjohns - but not a real fic!)

I just noticed that my first, and so far only, UNCLE story - the drabble pair Poker Face - was recced yesterday on

mfu_shortstorie! ::boggles:: I don't think I've ever had a story mentioned on any fic-rec anything before! (Not that I know of, for sure!)

Of course, this could mean either that it's good, or that the reccers are running low on material... ;-) Still and all, it's quite encouraging! ~goes away to polish next fic just a little more~
