curuchamion: First Doctor inside a Dalek, from The Space Museum (One in a Dalek)
Okay. So the ever-awesome InfiniteViking (I would link your journal, honest, but I haven't gotten used to the way crossposting b0rks up all my LJ code) has this meme that is the Drabbles IN SPAAAAACE!!! meme.

1: Get a title from a random title generator. (I used this one, but Google has a wide selection.)
2: Add "IN SPAAAACE!!!" to the end.
3: Write a drabble!

So. Well. Um. This is in my X-UNIT crossover 'verse wherein the Brig founded the X-Men. And... I cannot explain it at all. O_O

Title: Vortex of Musings IN SPAAAACE!!!
Summary: Uh. Pointless humor teamfluff piece?
Notes: 153 words. Kitty Pryde, Liz Shaw, the Brig, Wolverine, and cameos by Nightcrawler and Colossus. (I absolutely could not squeeze Storm in, but she is part of the team in this 'verse.)

Lasciate ogni speranza, voi ch'entrate, because this is DUMB )
Okay, this is an odd bit of MFU dark!fic I wrote a while back. It's sort of a "Schrodinger's ficlet", in that I could waffle back and forth forever on whether it's any good... I hate those, because the only way to collapse the function is to post. o_O

Title: Useful [I am so imaginative, yeah? lol]
Summary: Illya is a supremely useful partner.
Notes: Gen, rated G. 200 words. Warning for dark!Napoleon.

Here goes, then )
Okay, here goes. I'm not going to say much in defence of this, except it was written a while back when I was depressed and (as usual) I don't really know if it's much good.

Title: To Rust Unburnished
Summary: Stargate SG-1, Tin Man ep tag. Robo!Jack muses on what he's lost.
Notes: Gen, rated PG for Jackish language. 50 words. Title from Tennyson's Ulysses, which is An Awesome Poem.

How dull is it to pause, to make an end, to rust unburnished, not to shine in use! As though to breathe were life! )
So I ganked this from [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose, who made it up a few years back. I'm reading through her archives, because I'm bored and apparently Whovians all have fascinating LJ archives. ;-)

Multi-Fandom Fanfiction Meme (You had me at "multi-fandom". *g*)

The instructions )

WELL! That was interesting... I find that I can't write a Sapphire & Steel half-drabble on a Robert W. Service prompt. It just won't. But here are the other four. I am deliberately not thinking about whether they are any good; half-drabbles aren't long enough for me to form a complete thought anyway.

Doctor Who )

Legend )

Man from UNCLE )

Stargate SG-1 )
I really don't know if this is any good, but I think it's as good as it's going to get. Anyway, I need to get it off my mind and into the fresh air - is that a mixed metaphor? o.O

Title suggestions welcome.

Title: (no title)
Summary: mildly angsty "Say UNCLE Affair" tagfic.
Notes: Gen, double drabble. Makes a lot more sense if you've seen the ep. (Hulu will start charging for it on May 15 2010, so get over there now if you haven't!)

Ninja!Ducky and General Solo under the cut... )
I've finally come up with a response to [livejournal.com profile] dw100 drabble challenge #5, "love"... sort of. Who'd'a thunk "love" and #6 "hate" would be so hard to write on?

The original inspiration for this piece was [livejournal.com profile] georgiesmith 's remark, in her [livejournal.com profile] network_command review of The Quadripartite Affair, wondering what happened after the famous proto!IllyaTherapy scene - how did Napoleon calm scared!Illya down and get him back to HQ?

This take on that question is probably not what Georgie was envisioning. What can I say, I have a weird mind. ;-)

(And I apologize profusely for the punch line.)

Title: Artistic Verisimilitude
Summary: The things we do for our friends...
Notes: Gen, 100 words. "Quadripartite Affair" missing scene.

Clicky to read... )
Okay... I'm actually supposed to be posting today's rec on Calufrax. I got a bit sidetracked here.

Title: Balm of Hurt Minds
Summary: Why the Doctor doesn't sleep.
Notes: Gen, 150 words. Third Doctor exile.

Sleep, the innocent sleep - sleep that knits up the ravelled sleeve of care; the death of each day's life, sore labour's bath, balm of hurt minds, great Nature's second course, chief nourisher in life's feast. --William Shakespeare

He doesn't sleep.

“I'm a Time Lord,” he tells them. “I don't need to sleep.” It's true, for the most part: he doesn't need sleep as humans do, in measured doses every night. He can get by with the occasional booster shot when his naturally resilient system begins to run down.

“I'm too busy,” he tells himself. “There's no time to sleep.” It's true, usually. There are always alien invasions, mad scientists, or the Brigadier's paperwork to battle. And behind it all, burning, his consuming need to mend the TARDIS and escape.

But in the long middle-nights when the experiments are all running smoothly - when there's nothing to do but wait, and sleep is calling his name - he still doesn't sleep. He can't accept the human rhythm of day and night, because that would be an assimilation into their culture.

An admission that, just maybe... he won't be leaving.
... I appear to have written tagfic for one of the Man from UNCLE official novels? Something like that, anyway.

[livejournal.com profile] dw100 challenge #10 is "jokes". I believe I have [livejournal.com profile] cleothemuse to blame for this loose interpretation of the prompt - she was the one who wrote a set of Stargate fics where the team were making limericks in the infirmary, right?

Title: Convalescence
Summary: A peek inside UNCLE's medical section...
Notes: Gen, 100 words. Dialogue drabble - I seem quite fond of those.

Clicky to read... )
Okay, the second dw100 challenge word was "food" - pretty obvious who I'd be writing about for that one, eh? ;D It actually took me some time to come up with this particular idea, and I apologize wholeheartedly for stealing the concept (and the foods) from a 'Gatefic of which I do not remember the author.

Title: Food Fight
Summary: Illya's first food fight in the UNCLE cafeteria.
Notes: Gen, double drabble i.e. 200 words. Early partnership. Blue Jello courtesy of the SGC. ;-)

Under the cut... )
Between Lothi's [livejournal.com profile] mfuwss drabbles and [livejournal.com profile] dw100 , I am surrounded by drabble challenges. However, I find it quite difficult to write on a topic someone else has already written on, without some kind of twist. I have therefore embarked, for no real discernible reason, on the project of writing an UNCLE drabble (or possibly a McCallum drabble) on each of the dw100 challenges.

The first challenge was "accidents". One is not required to use the word in the drabble; it's just for inspiration. Here is my take on the subject.

Title: Accidental Capture
Summary: Explains a certain oft-noted oddity of Napoleon Solo's wardrobe.
Notes: Gen, rated G. 100 words. Early partnership, pre-series. Silly, but... maybe not so silly. ;-)

Drabble under here... )
I will probably put up a LOL later today. For now, here's my first-ever challenge drabble, cross-posted from [livejournal.com profile] dw100 for the sake of tidiness (and also a little bit of showing off. sigh.)

Title: Worse Than Ever
Summary: Three, Jo, Delgado!Master... and finger painting?!
Notes: Gen, rated G, 100 words. From challenge #278: Child. Warning - silly.

Under here... )
Today is TARDIS Day - the 46th anniversary of the day the first-ever episode of Doctor Who was broadcast. (Due to the Kennedy assassination, it received spectacularly low ratings and had to be rebroadcast the next week.) It's also the anniversary of the day I was baptized. I'm not sure what that says about my lifelong interest in weirdnesses related to Time...

In my usual tangential manner, I do not have a Who-themed post prepared for today. Instead, I have a Sapphire & Steel drabble: my first writing in the fandom. I've been quite impressed by the quality of other fans' work, and sincerely hope this offering is up to par.

I was particularly influenced by [profile] nemo_everbeing 's amazing "And This Gray Spirit" and [livejournal.com profile] thisiszircon 's "The Wallflower". And of course, I've got to thank David McCallum for being such a great actor. :D

Title: Insensitive
Summary: Why was Steel partnered with Sapphire?
Notes: Gen, 100 words. Sapphire/Steel UST.

Drabble under here... )
(This was partly inspired by my own MacGyverly habits, morphed into an UNCLE piece in the details, and in many ways - especially the last line - describes everyone I've ever considered a hero. Thanks for reading.)

Point of View

Some people don't see things this way.

It always gives him hope - the knowledge that there are people, living in this world, who don't look over their shoulders every time they cross the street... who don't check out every room they enter for possible ambush locations and crossfire points... who've never spent the Fourth of July lying flat in the dirt with one hand on a gun, ears straining to distinguish enemy fire from the noise of the fireworks.

They've never had to learn these things. He lives his life the way he does so they'll never have to.
