30 Days of Telly meme yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] calapine. And ganked from me by several other people. I feel oddly flattered - I'm a trendsetter! ;-)

Day 06 - Favorite episode of your favorite TV show: Hmm. This went on a bit. Cut for length.

This is the cut )

Day 05 - A show you hate: Perry Mason. How my family can watch whole discs of it end-to-end I do not understand. The plots are predictable, the acting is second-rate, the dialogue is cringe-inducingly '50s (with liberal applications of the "Oh, Robert! Whatever will we do?" school of writing), Raymond Burr looks like a raccoon in need of coffee, and the character I find most interesting and sympathetic is Lt Tragg. Which I gather is not what I am supposed to do. o.O

(This is of course all my opinion and if anyone disagrees violently with me I should like to hear about it. Squee at me hard enough about anything and I'm likely to give it a second chance.)

Day 04 - Your favorite show ever: Hmm. Favorite show ever. That's a big question.

The answer is fairly obvious, though, given that I have our entire DVD collection of one particular show sitting right next to my bed! :D Specifically, "Bonanza".

I don't even know how to start saying how much I love this show. It's so good I can't even think of it in parts, as the writing and the acting and so forth; it's just Bonanza. And it is awesome.

... I do not think I'm being coherent. My tribute fic Last Man Standing - the only Bonanza story I've ever written or ever expect to write - will have to speak for me on this subject.

*wanders off to watch DVDs*

Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season): As aforementioned, I don't watch much new TV. At all. The only thing I've been watching this season as it comes out is the new series of Doctor Who.

Here is what I think of it: cut for spoilers... )

Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching: Well, by and large, TV shows are off the air by the time I hear about them, so I'll go with an old favorite.

Gilligan's Island. Oh, sure, people watch it - it's been running constantly in syndication since it was cancelled, and it's as much a part of our collective language as Star Wars - but it gets such a bad rap. It's the cleverest, best-written, best-acted, and cleanest comedy show in history, featuring one of the world's greatest comedy teams ever (I mean of course Alan Hale Jr and Bob Denver) and a good deal of hilarious social commentary that should give Terry Pratchett a run for his money, but what do people say about it? "[This other thing] was so bad I'd rather watch Gilligan's Island!"

*major eyeroll*

(Not to mention, it has Hamlet: The Opera. Which is pretty much the best abridgment of Shakespeare ever, no kidding. *wanders off singing "Neither a Borrower Nor a Lender Be"*)

Day 1 - A show that should never have been cancelled: Sapphire & Steel! Certainly not cancelled at the time it was, for cryin' out loud. And it would be lovely if it had run for a great deal longer, because it is the awesome. Even if it did have a huge proportion of Really Annoying Innocents, it also had DMc and Joanna Lumley and some pretty amazing wardrobe. (Yes, I'm incorrigible.) And genius scripts... and, unique among sci-fi shows, a special-effects department that actually stayed within their budget!
