[livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose just posted this, and I thought it looked fun, so I'm ganking it:

Post a comment with a fun fact about you, then ask me a question (any question!) and I'll answer. Tadaa! Instant conversation. Possibly.

Go ahead. Give me your best shot. At the very least, it should be... interesting. ;-)

I lived in England for the first 32 years of my life. Where were you born?

I wondered about that, because you say things sometimes that make you sound like a Brit, and then other times you refer to living in America.

I was born in Indiana, not far from Notre Dame University, where my dad was attending classes. We actually lived at the university for several years; I still love the beautiful campus, and have an abiding hatred of being expected to like the football team. (Not a football person, me.)

If you'd had to guess, before I told you that, where would you have said I was from?

I can wriggle my ears & eyebrows like Jon Pertwee. What's your strangest talent?

You can?! *jealous* (Okay, I can waggle my eyebrows, just not my ears.)

My strangest talent... also has to do with Doctor Who, kind of. I can make containers act as if they're bigger on the inside.

Say you've got a suitcase cram-packed so full it won't quite shut, no matter how much you wrestle with it; if I take everything out of that suitcase, then put everything back in, it will shut with room to spare. Works with bookcases, dresser-drawers, refrigerators, any confined space with a finite amount of contents. And it keeps going: on one trip, I started with a full suitcase, happened to repack several times, and wound up with a half-full suitcase with all the same stuff in.

(Crazy, huh?)

I can also touch my nose with my tongue and twitch my nose Bewitched style... yeah... These are *useful* talents aren't they? (truth to tell, I only figured out how to do the ears thing a couple months back. I realized that my ears went when I was wriggling my eyebrows and after that it was just a matter of separating out the muscles)

Your talent on the other hand is SUPER useful. I'm not a bad packer - I went to Belize for a month on one duffle bag - but when it comes to REPACKING at the end of the trip I'm quite lost. I usually end up chucking most of the stuf I brought with me and just bringing back the souvenirs. Saves on luggage fees if nothing else.

I have a completely useless degree in Psychology and speech communication - never used it to earn even a bite of my proverbial bread as by the time I had the degree I knew I didn't want to pursue counseling after all. :-P Oh well.

Have you ever worked to accomplish some qualification or skill that then just sort of wandered off into the weeds uselessly?

At first I was going to say no, I didn't think I had. By and large, if I've got knowledge, I tend to find a use for it.

But I did spend quite a bit of time a few years back learning an incredible amount about Star Wars (old trilogy and the 'verse appertaining thereunto). I'd make a heck of a beta in the fandom; I can spellcheck a host of proper names and odd words, identify most of the spaceships and droids in use, draw a rough map of the galaxy, and go on rather endlessly about the Millennium Falcon... but somehow I just don't care for it. I've never used that knowledge, and doubt I ever will.
