30 Days of Telly meme from Calapine, Day 3.

Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season): As aforementioned, I don't watch much new TV. At all. The only thing I've been watching this season as it comes out is the new series of Doctor Who.

Here is what I think of it: "The Eleventh Hour" was shiny awesome spiffyriffic. With little!Amy, and fish custard, and the new TARDIS interior oh oh oh I am in love SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

"The Beast Below" was fun in spots - fave line "We're checking all the water in this area, there's an escaped fish." But between all the Star Wars references and Chris Claremont's space whale, it felt a bit crammed, and the interesting bits were not properly followed up. (Plus, the bad!democracy/cool!monarch thing disturbed me, but then I'm American. And a bit obsessed with political philosophy.)

"Victory of the Daleks"... okay, gotta admit it: Eleven's random little temper tantrum at the Dalek scared the hell out of me. ('Scuse my Klatchian.) Since then, I can't really care about him, or about Amy since she didn't take him down. I don't want to watch a show about an uncontrollable nutter who's not really showing any idealism whatsoever anymore.

I did watch "Time of Angels". River is an utter pill - she didn't actually bother me in SitL/FotD, but she does here. I quite liked Bishop Octavian, though. (And my current attitude toward this show is well exemplified by my comment in my notes, "Now there's a soldier. I like him. I'm supposed to like him... he'll probably get killed."

Having learned that Bishop Octavian actually does get killed in "Flesh and Stone", I just haven't cared enough to see it. Or "Vampires of Venice". I rather like Rory, so I'm thinking about seeing "Amy's Choice" and the Chibnall two-parter, but OTOH I might just keep on liking him and make up my own adventures. *eyeroll*

So there you have it. The only new show I've been watching this season. Doesn't exactly count as a favorite.

Hmmm. I do suggest watching VoV. It was a huge improvement over the rest of the episodes (and I didn't care that much for them either). It sort of gave me hope this series won't be a complete disaster... but I'm afraid to hope now.

So far we've only seen the first episode and liked it well enough. Not WOOHOO, but then, let's face it, David Tennant is an incredibly hard act to follow! Gotta catch up on the other eps when we have a free evening or two and see how we like them.

I like your meme, so copied it and am starting with #1 in my journal today.

Yes, you should watch Vampires of Venice - it was a lot of fun (& has Rory in, btw), and might well get you back on board. I'm sorry Victory of the Daleks (definitely my least fave ep by a mile so far) put you off that much - I'm loving Eleven a lot. And Vampires was fun. I also think River is kind of meant to be annoying. It's the nature of someone who knows spoilers about your life. (Plus, interesting timey-wimey bits that might raise questions with you were in the second bit of that two-parter. And Father Octavians' death scene - since you know that. Nice line to go out on.)

But there, I'm just loving the Seven/Two/One vibes Eleven is giving out. ;-)

Plus, I like this meme. I'm going to steal it. Although I probably won't manage daily posts.
