Another one from the long-stalled-WIP folder... yes, I have an irrational love for the sort of story where two characters played by the same actor meet each other. Blame my first (pair of) fandom(s), MacGyver/Stargate. ;-)

Title: Someone Came Knocking [okay, I've pretty much given up on finding perfect titles. Random lines of poetry, that's for me.]
Summary: In which Q shows up at the Bartok Research Laboratories. Fix-it for "Revenge of the Herd" and "Fall of a Legend".
Notes: 677 words. Gen, rated G.

I didn't write that! It has a split infinitive! )
And I have snazzy stuff! Which I am going to link and chatter about because [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose did for hers and I am nothing if not original, oh yes. ;-)

This is long )

Fandom meme

Oct. 3rd, 2010 11:10 am
Okay - [livejournal.com profile] togsos was doing this meme and I (being - like her - a "sleek fabulous lemming", lol) jumped on the bandwagon.

Rules: Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Togsos asked me about Sapphire and Steel, MFU, and Doctor Who, then added "but I would like a bonus set of the same answers on Star Trek next gen because it is a slide into fandom that is happening/evolving before my very eyes!" So, um, here's all that.

Under cuts, because you know how I ramble.

S&S under here ) MFU under here ) Who under here ) TNG under here )
Theorem: The universe is awesome.

Proof: "Spock vs. Q" and "Spock vs. Q: The Sequel" are both available on YouTube.

I could squee about the writing, the acting, the unexpected singing, and of course the whole concept of these odd little arcana - a pair of radio-play-like scenarios recorded live in Kansas City (don't ask me why Kansas City) by the original actors, packed full of ridiculous Trekkish hilarity...

...but I think the title says it all. Spock versus Q. Battle of the sardonically raised eyebrows FTW!

I'd provide a link, but I don't know how quickly it would go out of date, so just do the search, and be prepared for awesome. ;D

(It's a major shame this is not a video recording. I'd buy the DVD. It *is* available on CD, but the DVD would be so much more incredible.)
I have no idea if anyone's interested in this, but I always like to see what other people think of a show when they start watching it without knowing half the storylines from spoilers already... doesn't happen to me very often. *g* However, thanks to Beth's helpful suggestions, I'm actually watching Star Trek: The Next Generation for the very first time more or less "from scratch".

So I thought, since I like to read other people's mini reaction posts to older shows, I'd do one myself now I'm finally in a situation where I can.

Rambliness under the cut! )

So... that's what I've seen so far. In the main, I quite like it, though I do rather see why Beth suggested I should skip season one! ;-)
